The ecumenical festival service on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Universität Hamburg was held on 28 October 2019 in Hauptkirche St. Katharinen. The anniversary service, following the University worship service’s theme “Seek the peace of the city,” examined the meaning of education for constructive coexistence.

The Universität Hamburg choir sang works by Åsander, Reger, Gjeilo, and Ešenvalds.

The Universität Hamburg choir provided the musical framework for this special worship service on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the University on 28 October 2019.

Mr. Baghbani, a student in the Department of Protestant Theology at Universität Hamburg, read passages from the speech made by Prof. Dr. Karl Rethgen at the opening ceremony for Universität Hamburg on 10 May 1919.

Bishop Kirsten Fehrs and Archbishop Dr. Stefan Heße hold sermons on Proverbs 4:7: “get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

State Secretary Dr. Eva Gümbel, Dean Prof. Dr. Oliver Huck, the Cultural Representative of the Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland Prof. Dr. Johann Hinrich Claussen, and University Pastor Prof. Dr. Kristin Merle spoke words of welcome.

At the end of the day, it remained only to express thanks to the many helpers who organized and supported the festival worship service.
