To the Book
The understanding and practice of baptism is regarded as dividing
churches between those of the Anabaptist tradition and those who
baptize children. This trilateral dialogue between Lutheran,
Mennonite and Roman Catholic churches on an international level
resulted from earlier steps of healing from memories, all the way
to reconciliation. In three sections, the report goes into baptism (1)
in relation to sin and grace, (2) as a mediation of faith, (3) in
relation to the succession of Jesus. In this way, the format of a
trilateral dialogue reveals a unique dynamic, since differences are
always negotiated in the presence of a third party. Practical
recommendations for future steps are jointly formulated.
The publication in German translation is complemented by
individual learning experiences of delegated dialogue participants.
