On the "Anabaptist Commemoration" in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Heidelberg Reformation Day, October 31, 2025
On the occasion of the "Anabaptist Commemoration," Professor Enns preached in the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit) in Heidelberg on October 31, 2025, based on 1 Corinthians 3:11.
Here is a short excerpt:
Dear Congregation,
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 3:11)
If you ask a Catholic, a Lutheran, or a member of the Reformed Church where this verse originates, they will—provided they are well-versed in the Bible—answer: from Paul! In his first letter to the congregation in Corinth. If, however, you ask a Mennonite, it may happen that they answer: That verse is from Menno Simons! Why? Because all Mennonites—provided they know their own tradition—uniquely associate this very verse with their namesake from the Reformation, Menno Simons. It was his “motto.”
